Courses Being Offered

HELMETS TO HARDHATS

Journeyperson upgrade courses available through Ironworkers Local 765

Courses are run at the training centre when demand warrants throughout the year. The training is closed for the months of July and August. Courses are available to members only.

Register online for these courses or phone Local 765 at (613) 225-0573. Courses will be scheduled as demand suits. All applicants will be contacted and asked to confirm in advance of each course. Some courses require a deposit which is refunded after successful completion of the course. Some courses are not available to apprentices.

COURSES OFFERED

Welding

To get started, it’s important to learn the basics of welding and to learn the various techniques. This course allows the participant to practice in advance of C.W.B. testing for procedures using the following types of welding processes:

  • S.M.A.W. (Shielded metal arc welding)
  • G.M.A.W. (Gas metal arc welding)
  • F.C.A.W. (Flux-cored arc welding)
  • G.T.A.W. (Gas tungsten arc welding )
  • DECKWELDING
  • REBAR WELDING

Course deposit required – $85.00 (refundable). Participants will be afforded three chances at a successful challenge of the C.W.B. they are attempting.

Blueprint Reading Course

If you can’t read a blueprint, you won’t be able to contribute to the project. We offer various blueprint reading courses at the training centre and duration varies for each. Please specify which course you are interested in taking when you submit your application for one of the following:

  • REINFORCING
  • STRUCTURAL BASIC
  • STRUCTURAL ADVANCED
  • CURTAINWALL

 

Instrument Course

This course will give the successful applicant a comprehensive background in using optical instruments for plumbing, aligning and layout on contractors levels, transits, theodolites, digital theodolites and total stations.

Fall Arrest Course

This course will give the successful applicant a generic certification for all arrest and travel restraint systems.

First Aid

This course will give the successful applicant a valid emergency first aid certificate with a three year expiry as per St. John Ambulance regulations.

Generic Health & Safety Level 1

This course will give the successful applicant a background on current health and safety in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Rigging Safety

This course will give the successful applicant a comprehensive background in fibre-line and wire rope rigging and rigging accessories and applications.
